5 Things to Know for Fire Protection Services Fire Ban for Prescott National Forest
Due to increasing fire danger, 248 square miles of the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority and the 42 square mile City of Prescott, including the Prescott National Forest, will implement Stage II fire restrictions effective Friday, June 30, at 8 a.m. These additional fire restrictions will remain in effect until forest officials determine that conditions have changed sufficiently to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfire.
This includes the Towns of Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, Dewey/Humboldt, Paulden and the areas surrounding the City of Prescott such as Williamson Valley, upper Copper Basin Road and Mountain Club area, Ponderosa Park off of White Spar Road, the Senator Highways area of Karen Drive, Sweet Acres, and Oak Knoll Village and finally the areas extending south of Prescott including Govt. Canyon and Diamond Valley.
Stage II fire restrictions prohibit the following:
Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or stove fire, including fires in developed campgrounds and improved sites.
Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building.
Discharging a firearm, air rifle, or gas gun, except while engaged in a lawful hunt pursuant to state, federal, or tribal laws and regulations.
Operating any internal combustion engine from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Welding or operating acetylene or other torch with an open flame.
Under the restrictions, fires, campfires, charcoal, coal and wood stoves are NOT allowed anywhere on the forest. The restrictions also limit smoking to within enclosed vehicles or buildings. Using a device that is solely fueled by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels that can be turned on and off is allowed in areas that are clear of flammable materials. Discharging a firearm, air rifle, or gas gun is prohibited; except while engaged in a lawful hunt pursuant to state, federal laws and regulations. Fireworks are always prohibited on all national forest lands.
